Indian Meal Moths

The Indian meal moth, also known as the pantry moth, was given its name after an insect scientist found it feeding on corn meal, also known as Indian meal. From wing tip to wing tip, adult moths measure from five-eighths of an inch to three-fourths of an inch long.

Pantry moths lay eggs in dry food products and generally make their way into your home on food products from infested warehouses or grain storage facilities. 

What Causes Pantry Moths?

Pantry moths are attracted to light and frequently infest dried foods like flour, rice, cereal, and pet and bird food. Keeping these foods in unsealed containers can attract the moths. 

How to Get Rid of Pantry Moths

To prevent pantry moths, dried food products should be inspected thoroughly for signs of moth infestations and infested foods should be discarded in outdoor trash bins. Clean infested cupboards thoroughly with a vacuum and soap and water. Store food in sealed containers.
